HP LaserJet 4 Series Printers - Selecting Fonts in WordPerfect 6.0
 Selecting fonts
The font and font attributes are selected using WordPerfect's font selection feature CTRL.
Bitmapped fonts are offered in a selection of specific point sizes. If a scaleable font is selected, WordPerfect Version 6.0 allows the specification of a point size between .2 and 999.7 points in .1 point increments.
The base font is the font in which normal text is printed. All other font attributes (for example, bold) are usually variations of the base font.
Changing fonts
To change fonts within a document, follow these instructions:
Press CTRL + F8 to display the Font
menu.
Select F for Base Font to display a list of available fonts.
Highlight the font of choice, and then press ENTER to choose the font. If the font is scaleable, press S for Size, and then enter a point size.
Changing font attributes
To change a font's appearance (for example, bold, italic, outline, or shadow):
Press CTRL + F9 to display the Font
menu.
Select A for Appearance.
Select the desired attribute.
Type the text.
Press the right arrow key or press CTRL + F8, and then select N for Normal, to return to the previous font appearance.
Changing existing text
To change the size or appearance of existing text, select the text using WordPerfect's commands.
Move the cursor to the beginning of the text you want to change. Press ALT + F4, and then use the cursor to highlight the text to be modified.
Press CTRL + F8 to display the Font
menu.
Select S for Size, then A for Appearance.

Press ENTER twice to return to the document.
Press SHIFT + F7, F for the Full Document, then press Enter to print the document.
|
NOTE:
|
The HP LaserJet 4 family printer will automatically rotate the fonts to the landscape orientation. |
Printing on legal-size paper with a paper tray
To print on legal paper from the paper tray, consult the HP LaserJet 4 Family printer's User's Manual
for information about how to configure the printer's universal paper tray to hold legal-size paper.
On the HP LaserJet 4 printer, configure the Multipurpose Tray as a Paper Cassette (CASS) and change the paper size, using the Paper Size Key, to legal.
Position the cursor at the top of the page before all other printer codes and text.
Press SHIFT + F8, P for Page, and then S for Paper Size/Type.
Highlight the Legal (or Legal landscape) form. If the form location is set to Manual (the default), go to step 4. If it is set to Continuous, go to step 5.
Select E for Edit, and L for Location. Highlight Continuous, then press ENTER twice to save changes and exit to the Format: Paper Size/Type screen.
Press S for Select.
Press ENTER twice to return to the document.
Press SHIFT + F7, F for Full Document to print the document.
Printing on legal-size paper with the Manual Feed tray
Follow these steps to print on legal-size paper using the manual-feed option:
Position the cursor at the top of the page before all other printer codes and text.
Press SHIFT + F8, P for Page, and then S for Paper Size/Type.
Highlight the appropriate legal form (Legal or Legal Landscape). Verify that the location is Manual, then press S for Select.
Press ENTER twice to return to the document.
Press SHIFT + F7, F for the Full Document, then press ENTER to print the document.
When the printer displays "MF Feed Legal" (the HP LaserJet 4L printer will not display this as it does not have an LED display), insert the paper into the printer's manual feed slot with the paper face up.
|
NOTE:
|
With the HP LaserJet 4p and 4L printers, the printer will grab the upper left edge of the paper; release the paper immediately. To avoid a paper jam, do not
pull the paper out of the manual feed slot and reinsert it after the printer motor starts. |
Printing Com-10 envelopes (manual feed)
Follow these steps to print Com-10 envelopes using manual feed on the HP LaserJet 4 family printer.
Press the HOME key three times and the up arrow key once to position the cursor at the beginning of the document.
Press SHIFT + F8, P for Page, and then 7 for Envelope. At the Envelope
screen, select a size from the Envelope drop-down list or select Setup
and create an envelope size.
If you are printing on pre-printed envelopes, select Omit Return Address
.
If you want to use the same return address each time an envelope is reformatted, select Save Return Address as a Default. Select Return Address, type the return address, and press F7.
Select Mailing Address, type a mailing address, and press F7. If the current document is a letter that contains the address, WordPerfect software will enter the mailing address.
Select Print
to print the envelope without inserting it into the document or select Insert
to insert the envelope at the end of your document where it can be printed or saved.
When the printer displays "ME FEED COM10," insert the envelope into the printer's manual feed slot with the envelope flap down, stamp-end first.
|
NOTE:
|
The HP LaserJet 4L printer will not Display "ME FEED COM 10" because it does not have an LED display. |
Special Instructions for the HP LaserJet 4L and 4p printers
Before printing envelopes on the HP LaserJet 4L or 4p printer, set the printer's paper path knob to the down position to allow the envelope to feed out of the back of the printer. (See the HP LaserJet 4P or 4L printer User's Manual
for additional information about printing envelopes.)
Align the envelope against the left side of the manual feed slot. Insert the envelope until there is some resistance. The printer will grab the end of the envelope and hold it. Release the envelope and let it hang down from the manual feed slot.
|
NOTE:
|
To avoid a paper jam, do not
pull the envelope out of the manual feed slot and reinsert it after the printer begins receiving data. |
