HP Deskjet 3740, 3743, 3744, 3745, 3745v, and 3747 Printers - Printer Driver Setting Definitions
Introduction
Printing by the HP Deskjet 3745 printer is controlled by the driver software that was installed during the printer driver installation. Changes to the printer properties can be set and changed in the Properties dialog box. The methods of accessing the dialog box will differ, depending on the software program being used. One of the following methods will open the Properties dialog box.
Click File
, Print
, then click the Properties
button.
Click File
, Print Setup
, then click the Properties
button.
Click File
, Print
, Setup
, then click the Properties
button.
Click Print
, Properties
, then click Printer Assistant
.
Click the Taskbar Printer
icon.
Right-click the applicable 3740 icon
in the Printers
folder, then click the Printer Preferences
button.
One of the methods described above will open the Printer Properties
dialog box.
Printer setting definitions
The driver settings are explained below. Figure 1: Printing Shortcuts
The first box on the Printing Shortcuts tab is What do you want to do?
Select from General everyday printing, Photo printing-borderless, Photo printing-with white borders, or Fast/economical printing
.
The appropriate settings are automatically made by choosing one of the options in What do you want to do?
If desired, make manual selections to the settings described in the table below. The settings that are available depends on which setting is selected in the What do you want to do?
box.

Selecting either Photo printing-borderless
or Photo printing-with white borders
in the What do you want to do?
box, will bring up the HP digital photography options
dialog box.

Selecting from the six options available may alter the quality of photo printing. In most applications, the program defaults will provide the best digital print.

The first box on the Paper/Quality tab is Print Tasks Quick Sets
. Select from Default print settings, Draft text or text with color printing, Professional text or text with color printing, Professional photo-quality printing, Economical 4x6 in. photo, HP Everyday Photo Paper,
or Borderless photo, 4x6 in.
The appropriate settings are automatically selected made by choosing an option in the Print Tasks Quick Sets
box.
New Quick Sets can be added by performing the following steps:
Type a new Quick Sets description in the Print Tasks Quick Sets
box.
Choose the appropriate Paper options (Size is:, Type is:)
.
Choose the appropriate Print Quality
.
Click Save
to save the new Quick Set
.
To delete a new Quick Set, select the desired Quick Set and click Delete
.

In the Basics
tab, Print Task Quick Sets
can be selected, added, or deleted, as well as changes made to Orientation, Page Order
, and Copy Count
.
If desired, make manual selections to the settings described in the following table:

can be selected, added, or deleted, as well as changes made to Color options

To print in grayscale, click Print in grayscale

or Black print cartridge only

tab, click Service this device
to open the HP Deskjet 3740 Series Toolbox
dialog box.

Three services are available on the Device Services
tab.
Click Align the Printer
to open the Align the Print Cartridges
wizard.
Click Clean the Print Cartridges
to open the Clean the print Cartridge(s)
wizard.
Click Print a Test Page
to open the Print a Test Page
wizard. Once the wizard is open, click Print Page
to print a test page or click Cancel
to close the wizard.

The Estimated Ink Level
tab shows an estimate of how much ink is left in the printer's tri-color and black ink cartridges.

To order a new print cartridge,
Click Order Online
to go to the HP My supplies finder
Web page to order new print cartridges online or,
Click Print Page
to print a page with replacement cartridge part numbers.

The first box in the Configuration tab is Accessories
. These accessories are not available on all printer models and may appear dimmed if not available.
In the Messages box, select either Display Print Settings Confirmation Dialog
or Display Status Window
.
The Attempt to Use Hardware ECP
option in the Performance
box is not available on all printer models, and may appear dimmed if not available.
To apply any changes to the configuration settings, click Apply
.
To restore factory defaults, click Factory Settings
.
Click Configure Status Messages
to select which status messages to show, and to set the status report rate.
